Kun Henryn lausahdus sijoitetaan asiayhteyteensä, monologi meni suunnilleen näin: voin nostaa hattua joka kerta, kun näen Alfa Romeon (eikä käsi pahemmin väsy). Eli herra Ford halusi kertoa, että tulevaisuus on halpojen massa-autojen (niin kuin on ollutkin).
Paolo Torrettan (kuka hän sitten lieneekin) jutussa on muutakin erikoista.
- anonima on suomennettu anonyymiksi, mitä se toki tarkoittaa, mutta ei brittiläisten yritysten nimen yhteydessä esiintyvän LTD:nkään (limited) asiallisin käännös liene "rajoitettu". Olisiko Osakeyhtiö?
- "Autojen tunnusomainen 'Alfan punainen' väri ('Rosso Alfa') on myös peräisin 1920 -luvulta." Siihen aikaan autourheilussa oli talleilla kansalliset värit. Italialle annettiin punainen. Sitä ei tainnut siis Alfa Romeo itse valita. Britannialla oli vihreä ja Saksalla valkoinen. Koska heraldiikassa valkoinen ja hopea ovat rinnasteiset värit, alkoivat jotkut saksalaistallit josssain vaiheessa harrastaa hopeaa. Nykyisin sen värin on yleisimmin korvannut Harmaa, jolla maalattuja autoja mattikyllöset toki kutsuvat edelleen Mikan Hopeanuoliksi.

“So that is the origin of that story”, I said, “How did Mr Ford happen to say it?”

“Aside from that , do you know how Mr Ford came by any opinion at all about Alfa cars?” I asked “very few ever came to the states in those days”.
“I seem to remember that in 1938. Mr Ford had examined an Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 roadster that had been bought by a member of the Rockefeller Family. In any case , I know that I respected their design and workmanship”.

Mr Ford has been misquoted . He didn’t say “Every time is see one”, he said “When I see one”. My father recounted that episode to me, and the exact words are still clear in my mind.

Märssy oli kilon tai pari ylipainoinen ja legendaarinen tallipäällikkö tuon sitten hätäpäissään keksi. Juu, mutta tuo oli mahdollista siksi, että hopean ja valkoisen voitiin heraldisen värikartan mukaan katsoa olevan sama väri. Näin ainakin luin Bemaristi-lehdestä.
